Register a sender ID if you have an ABN

Your details must be current on the ABR to register a sender ID

To register a sender ID if you have an Australian Business Number (ABN), your authorised contact or service of notice email address in the Australian Business Register (ABR) must be up to date.

We do not check Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) for authorisation arrangements for the SMS Sender ID Register.

How to register your sender ID

Please follow these steps.

1

Contact your telco or message provider

You will need to contact each telco or message provider that you wish to use to send sender ID messages.

Check your telco is on the list of approved telcos and message providers.

2

Provide them with the sender ID(s) you wish to register

Your telco will register them on your behalf. You will need to demonstrate a valid use case for each sender ID – that means the sender ID must match your identity and be clearly linked to your organisation. Find out the types of sender ID you can register.

3

Confirm your registration

You will need to pass checks to verify your organisation, your identity and your authority to act on behalf of your organisation.

Your telco or message provider will ask the ACMA to conduct the checks and notify you using the email you provided to your telco. In this case, you will need to verify your identity using myID.

Make sure your contact details in the register are up to date so you can get updates about your registration.

Telcos you can use to register

You can register a sender ID through your telco or message provider as long as that provider is participating in the SMS Sender ID Register.

Certified and participating telcos

There are 2 different types of telcos using the register. You can use either type of telco, or their partners, to register your sender ID:

  • certified telcos
  • participating telcos

Use our list of approved telcos and message providers to find out what kind of telco your provider is.

Self‑registration is now available, but Sender IDs cannot be used unless a telco or messaging provider is authorised to use them. Telcos must still submit the Sender ID for registration, and entities must explicitly approve its use via the register.
