Update your details on the Australian Business Register

The SMS Sender ID Register uses the Australian Business Register (ABR) to check if someone is an authorised representative of a business or organisation.

If your ABR details aren’t up to date, we can’t confirm we are dealing with an authorised person and cannot register your sender ID.

While some agencies check Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) for authorisation arrangements, the SMS Sender ID Register only uses the ABR.

What does this mean for registering your sender ID?

After your telco applies to register your sender ID, you will receive an email asking you to access the SMS Sender ID Register to confirm your application. We send this email to the ‘authorised contact’ listed in your ABR details.

This means, to use the Register, you must have access to the ‘authorised contact’ or ‘service of notice’ email address listed for your business on the ABR, or be approved by an authorised contact on the ABR.

If the authorised contacts for your organisation on the ABR are not up to date, you will not be able to access the SMS Sender ID Register.

How can I update my authorised contacts on the ABR?

The quickest way is to update your ABR details online:

  1. Go to abr.gov.au
  2. Choose Update your ABN details
  3. Log in with your Digital ID linked to the ABN
  4. Add, remove, or update authorised contact details
  5. Submit the changes

You can also ask your registered tax or BAS agent to update the details on your behalf, or get in touch with the ABR directly.
