Register a sender ID if you don’t have an ABN

If you are an organisation without an Australian Business Number (ABN), for example, a community group or school, you can still register sender IDs but you must do so through a certified telco.

If you have an ABN, you can choose to apply and use the register in the same way as an organisation without an ABN.

Certified telcos

Certified telcos are approved to conduct checks to verify organisations without an ABN. Use our list of approved telcos and message providers to find a certified telco.

If your existing telco or message provider is not a certified telco, they cannot register your sender IDs. You will need to contact a certified telco, or a partner of a certified telco.

How to register your sender ID

1. Contact a certified telco, or the partner of a certified telco

If your existing telco isn’t a certified telco, use our list to find one.

2. Pass the verification checks

You will need to show that your organisation is officially recognised or certified by a governing body, regulator or accreditation authority in your country.

Your authorised representative will also need to verify their identity.

3. Provide your telco with the sender ID(s) you wish to register

You will need to prove a valid use case for each sender ID – that means the sender ID must match your identity and be clearly linked to your organisation. Find out the types of sender ID you can register.

Organisations without an ABN cannot access the register directly. Your certified telco will manage the registration process, confirm your registered sender IDs and maintain your contact details in the register.
