Australia’s TV prominence rules
New TVs sold in Australia must have the following free-to-air broadcasters’ apps installed and prominently displayed on the home screen:
- ABC iview
- SBS On Demand
- 7plus
- 9Now
- 10.
You can still customise your home screen or delete these apps if you do not wish to access these services.
Devices that can connect to an antenna must also have:
- an icon on the home screen to make it easy to watch live TV
- an electronic program guide.
The rules only apply to TVs and devices manufactured and sold on or after 10 January 2026. Devices manufactured before 10 January are not required to comply.
Complain to us if your TV breaks the rules
We are responsible for overseeing the TV prominence rules. Manufacturers can face penalties if they supply devices into Australia that do not meet these rules.
If you see a new TV or streaming device that you believe does not meet the requirements above, let us know using the form below. Your complaints will help us to make sure the rules are being followed.
TV prominence complaint portal
The form requests specific information to help us identify the device you are complaining about, such as the model number, serial number and where it was purchased. You can look up how to find the model number of your device.
Information for manufacturers and retailers
We have developed TV prominence framework resources to help manufacturers and retailers understand the rules and their obligations.
More information
The TV prominence framework is one of the ACMA's compliance and enforcement priorities for 2025–26. We will continue working with device manufacturers and broadcasters over this period to make sure the rules are being followed.
