The Equipment Safety Pledge aims to better protect consumers when shopping online for radiocommunications devices.
About the pledge
The pledge is a set of voluntary commitments eCommerce platforms have made to help reduce the prevalence of non-compliant ‘dodgy’ radiocommunications devices being advertised and sold to Australians online.
‘Dodgy devices’ can include, among other equipment:
- non-compliant 2-way radios
- jammers
- mobile phone boosters
- unauthorised cellular mobile repeaters.
Shoppers should still do their own checks to ensure the item they are thinking of purchasing is compliant. See our webpage on How to spot a dodgy device for more help.
The pledge is the second product safety pledge in Australia. The first product safety pledge was developed by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
Pledge signatories
The current signatories to the pledge are:
- eBay
- SHEIN
- Gumtree
- Icom Australia
- Temu
- Radio Warehouse
Other online marketplaces and retailers can sign the pledge by contacting the ACMA.
Look for the pledge before you buy
If you see this pledge badge on a seller’s website, it means they’ve signed up to help protect you from unsafe devices. Check the seller is on our list of signatories above.
