The research draws on quantitative data from the ACMA’s Annual consumer survey and qualitative data from in-depth interviews.
Key findings
The research finds that Australian adults can be broadly placed into one of 7 news consumer segments. Each segment presents its own demographic, behavioural and attitudinal features, allowing us to understand more about how different groups in our society engage with and think about news.
The findings are presented as a series of visual snapshots for each segment, highlighting key demographic and behavioural features, and a detailed written report with comprehensive analysis. You can download the snapshots and report below.
We’ll use these insights to inform the next News media in Australia major written report, scheduled for publication in 2027.
This research is part of the ACMA research program, which plays an important role in providing evidence to inform our decision making.
