Reclaim your phone number from a telco

When a telco disconnects your service, they hold your number in quarantine.

You can ask to reclaim your number.

How to reclaim your number

If you want to reclaim your phone number, ask your telco or the telco that was the first to issue the number. You can search for the telco who was the first to allocate your number in our numbering system.

A telco may reissue your number before the end of the quarantine period if you:

  • had the number
  • have taken over a business that had the number

Usually telcos hold numbers in quarantine for a minimum of 6 months (12 months if the service was disconnected due to nuisance calls).

A telco does not have to reissue your number.
