Buying radiocommunications devices

When buying radiocommunications devices, make sure you’re getting compliant equipment. By taking precautions, you’ll ensure the products are safe and won’t interfere with other electronic devices.

Why is it important to buy compliant devices?

  1. Safety. Non-compliant devices may not meet safety standards. This could put you and others at risk.
  2. Interference. Non-compliant devices may also cause interference with other electronic devices. This can include mobile phones, GPS devices and emergency services equipment.
  3. Quality. Compliant devices are tested and certified to meet certain standards.
  4. Penalties. If you are found with a non-compliant device, maximum penalties may include a fine of up to $412,500 or 2 years prison. Penalties may also apply if you are found to be causing significant interference to others. Maximum penalties may include a fine of up to $1,375,000 or 5 years prison.
