The ACMA has today released its 2025–26 research program.

Research topics to be explored over the next 12 months will include the user experience and impact of BetStop – the National Self-Exclusion Register™, as well as AI developments in the telco, media and interactive gambling sectors.

The program will also continue the annual series of Communications and media in Australia interactive reports.

In 2025–26, projects included in the program are:

  • BetStop – mixed method user experience research
  • News media in Australia – News consumption
  • Online streaming safeguards
  • Communications and media in Australia
  • Emerging technology – Artificial Intelligence sector developments

The research provides evidence that informs decisions, and build a better understanding of communications and media markets.

The ACMA has statutory obligations to report to, and advise, the Minister for Communications, as well as to inform industry and the public about telecommunications, radiocommunications, broadcasting and some online services.

The ACMA’s research program assists in meeting our statutory obligations and supports it to make regulatory decisions informed by evidence.
