To support the application process, we made the:

We have also made an application form available on our website.

The process was informed by submissions received as part of this consultation. The submissions, along with a document outlining our responses to the matters raised, are available on this page.

Previous consultation: The issue

Most of the spectrum licences that authorise Australians’ access to mobile communications and data, and others that are used for rail and broadcasting services, are reaching the end of their term. Licensees may begin applying to the ACMA for renewal of some of these licences from 18 June 2026.

We are seeking feedback on the process to:

  • enable licensees to apply for renewal
  • identify how we propose to consider applications
  • engage with applicants throughout the decision-making process.

We are also seeking feedback on the draft instrument setting out the information requirements for renewal applications. This will require applicants to provide information about current and planned use of the spectrum.

You can find a draft of this instrument in the key documents box above.
