Outcome

radiocommunications

On 31 July 2025, the Minister for Communications approved the Cost Recovery Implementation Statement: Fees for radiocommunications, telecommunications and broadcasting services, budget year 2025–26 (the Fees CRIS). These fees are effective from 9 August 2025.

We received nil submissions during the consultation.

The ACMA previously consulted with industry between 19 June and 17 July 2024 on the proposed charges and taxes to enable long-term licensing of radionavigation-satellite service (RNSS) repeaters. The consultation received 7 public submissions from industry representative bodies, toll-road and mobile network operators, aerospace and railway entities. Submitters supported the proposal to license RNSS repeaters using the radiodetermination licence type, with economical charges to encourage deployment of the devices.

Following consultation, the key updates include:

  • changes to the standard and special hourly rates
  • changes to some existing radiocommunications licences
  • introducing new charges to issue and renew a radiodetermination licence that authorises the operation of RNSS repeaters.

Previous consultation: The Issue

Under the Australian Government Charging Framework, we charge fees to recover the costs of our products and services.

We are consulting on charges for our radiocommunications, telecommunications and broadcasting activities and services in 2025–26.

Changes to the standard hourly rate have resulted in increases to most charges. We are also proposing changes to some radiocommunications charges.

Full details are available in our Draft 2025–26 fees for service cost recovery implementation statement and consultation paper in the key documents section.
