Remaking and updating maritime instruments

We received no submissions to the consultation. 

On 16 March 2026, we made the following instruments:

• Radiocommunications (Qualified Operators – Maritime) Determination 2026
• Radiocommunications Licence Conditions (Maritime Licensing) Amendment Instrument 2026 (No. 1).

Radiocommunications

The Radiocommunications (Qualified Operators) Determination 2016 (QOD) is due to sunset on 1 April 2026. 

We believe the QOD forms a necessary part of our regulatory framework. We propose to remake it with minor changes. 

We are also proposing changes to maritime legislative instruments. These changes:

• make minor corrections
• reduce duplication
• clarify maritime qualification arrangements.
