Outcome
We received one public submission and one confidential submission to our proposal. Neither submission objected to the proposed amendments. You can view the public submission at the bottom of this page.
On 15 January 2026, we made the Radiocommunications Equipment (General) Amendment Rules 2026 (No. 1).
This amends the Radiocommunications Equipment (General) Rules 2021 (General Equipment Rules) to expand our labelling exemptions relating to the electromagnetic energy (EME) standard and general standards to Electric Vehicle Council (EVC) members.
It also creates new electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) exemptions in relation to vehicles and devices in vehicles that comply with the Voluntary Code of Practice for Electromagnetic Compatibility of Motor Vehicles developed by the EVC.
The amendments come into effect on 16 January 2026.

Radiocommunications
This proposal will:
- Expand labelling exemptions relating to the Electromagnetic Energy (EME) standard and general standards to cover certain motor vehicle devices supplied by EVC members.
- Create new electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) exemptions relating to vehicles and devices in vehicles covered by the EVC code.
Under the proposal, EVC members will get equivalent exemptions from EMC and labelling requirements to those given to other industry bodies specified in the:
- Radiocommunications Equipment (General) Rules 2021 (General Equipment Rules)
- Radiocommunications Labelling (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Notice 2017.
Devices supplied by EVC members must comply with the EME standard and any relevant general standards. Vehicles supplied by EVC members must comply with the EVC code. This imposes compliance rules that are equivalent to, or higher than, the Radiocommunications (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Standard 2017.
