Original consultation: Summary

The draft Five-year spectrum outlook (FYSO) 2025–30 provides a broad overview of trends that affect spectrum management and factors used to inform the ACMA's planning and spectrum allocation priorities.

It is a key part of our engagement with industry and the community on our spectrum management priorities.

Covering the 5 financial years from 2025–26 to 2029–30, the draft FYSO includes a detailed annual work program, with activities and milestones for the 2025–26 financial year.

The draft FYSO’s focus areas show that we are:

  • progressing activities relating to spectrum licences that are due to expire between 2028 and 2032
  • advancing the upper 6 GHz band to the implementation stage in the planning process
  • working to ensure our regulatory environment facilitates the adoption of low earth orbit satellites
  • progressing mobile satellite services allocations in the 1980–2005/2170–2195 MHz bands
  • continuing with a significant program of radio planning and allocation activities
  • continuing to review a large number of radiocommunications instruments due to sunset.

We expect to publish the final FYSO 2025–30 in the second half of 2025.
