There are two weeks left to apply for a grant under the Government’s $12.4 million Regional Grant Opportunity (the Opportunity) targeted at regional publishers of public interest journalism.
The Opportunity is administered by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) under the Regional and Small Publishers Innovation Fund.
Individual grants of up to $400,000 are available to publishers to assist in increasing the sustainability of regional print and online news publishing activities, including news gathering, production and distribution.
‘Through these grants, the ACMA is helping regional publishers drive public interest journalism and adapt to the challenges facing the contemporary media environment,’ said ACMA Chair Nerida O’Loughlin.
‘With only two weeks of the application period remaining, the ACMA encourages all eligible regional publishers to apply,’ said Ms O’Loughlin.
The grants program is aimed at providing regional news publishers and content service providers with financial security to ensure their longer-term sustainability to adapt to the new media environment.
The Opportunity is an additional grant opportunity in the 2018-19 round of the Regional and Small Publishers Innovation Fund (The Innovation Fund), and was launched to allow publishers to access residual funding that was not allocated in the main 2018-19 round.
New eligibility and merit criteria have been designed to streamline the application process and encourage a greater number of regional publishers to apply.
Applications for the Regional Grant Opportunity are open and will close at 2.00 pm (AEST) on 14 June 2019.
Applicants can access the application form, eligibility criteria and guidelines by registering at GrantConnect.
