Illegal offshore gambling has negative social and financial impacts on our community and industry.
The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (IGA) was strengthened in 2017, giving the ACMA expanded responsibilities and new powers to disrupt and deter prohibited and unlicensed offshore gambling. Since then, the ACMA has moved decisively to crack down on illegal operators in the Australian interactive gambling market.
Over the last 12 months, the ACMA’s activities have driven a significant change in compliance with the IGA. This is reflected in the withdrawal of prominent offshore online gambling providers from Australia and statistics pointing to a downward trend in offshore gambling expenditure.
