Spectrum licences in the 1800 MHz band
The ACMA is looking for comment from interested stakeholders on options for spectrum licences in the 1800 MHz band.
The second paper on the band released today, Spectrum licences in the 1800 MHz band—a shared strategy: Issues paper 2, informs stakeholders about licensing options to suit their planned infrastructure deployments and service delivery in the 1800 MHz band in regional and remote Australia.
The ACMA is eager to understand their views before deciding whether to recommend changes to the existing arrangements. In particular, if there is strong support from prospective licensees for an extension to spectrum licensing arrangements in the band, the ACMA will consider recommending that to the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.
Options in the paper leave open the prospect of enhanced spectrum-sharing arrangements in the band, including the introduction of an infrastructure park. Possible arrangements will be the subject of third Issues to be released next month.
Submissions on issues paper 2 close on Friday 17 May 2013.
