Unsolicited communications facts and figures

Unsolicited communications facts_cupcake

Unsolicited communications—in the form of email and SMS spam, telemarketing and fax marketing—are an ongoing issue for many Australians. The ACMA provides a range of safeguards set out in the:

  • Spam Act 2003
  • Do Not Call Register Act 2006
  • Telecommunications Act 1997
  • Telecommunications (Telemarketing and Research Calls) Industry Standard 2017
  • Fax Marketing Industry Standard 2011.

We work to foster industry compliance, promote best practice, and raise awareness about what citizens and business can do to protect themselves from harm. Our compliance activities are strategic, graduated and risk-based—we use light-touch approaches to achieve compliance where we can and are more likely to formally intervene on more serious or systemic issues.
