What this class licence lets you do
This class licence lets overseas amateurs visiting Australia to operate an amateur station if they:
- arrived in Australia less than 90 days ago
- follow the rules of the class licence for their level of qualification or licence
You need to apply for an Australian amateur apparatus licence if you want to use an amateur station for more than 90 days from your arrival in Australia.
Licence rules
You don't need to apply for a class licence or pay any fees.
But you must follow all the rules in the:
Overseas qualifications we recognise
If you have an overseas qualification or licence that is listed in Tables C (i) to C (iv), you may operate an amateur station if you follow the rules set out in Divisions 1 to 6 of the class licence. The tables below show the qualification or licence you need to operate in each division.
If your qualification or licence is not listed in Tables C (i) to V (iv) you can operate an amateur station in Australia if you follow the rules in divisions 1 and 6 of the class licence.
Table C(i)
If you have a qualification in Table C(i), you must operate under the rules in divisions 1 and 2 of the class licence.

Table C(ii)
If you have a qualification in Table C(ii), you must operate under the rules in divisions 1 and 3 of the class licence.

Table C(iii)
If you have a qualification in Table C(iii), you must operate under the rules in divisions 1 and 4 of the class licence.

Table C(v)
Overseas amateurs who possess an overseas amateur qualification or licence other than a qualification or licence listed in Tables C (i) to C (iv) may only operate under the conditions in Division 1 and Division 6 of the class licence.

You can find the amateur frequencies for each level of operation in the class licence.
Call signs
Overseas visiting amateurs must use their call sign with a “VK” in front of it to show their location. Section 11 of the class licence has more information using your overseas call sign.
