The issue

The Fax Marketing Industry Standard 2011 is due to automatically sunset on 1 October 2021. As we need to ensure that a standard is in force at all times, we want to remake the rules to continue protecting consumers against unsolicited fax marketing.

The Standard sets out the minimum requirements for sending marketing faxes and applies to participants in the fax marketing industry. It provides consumers and business with certainty about the minimum standards they can expect from fax marketers and maintains consistent national fax marketing standards.

We propose to remake the instrument with only such minor and technical changes as described in the consultation paper and highlighted in the accompanying new draft standard.
