A new direction for spectrum licences

30 March 2012

With a number of spectrum licences due to expire in the next five years, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (the ACMA) is currently reviewing the technical and regulatory frameworks that underpin the existing licensing arrangements. Our goal is to update and simplify these arrangements wherever possible, in preparation for the next 15-year licence terms.

We’ve released a consultation paper outlining minor amendments to key regulatory instruments and administrative arrangements. The proposed changes apply to all spectrum licences issued from 2012.

These recommended changes also apply to upcoming arrangements for the 700 MHz and 2.5 GHz bands.

We welcome your views and comments on these proposals. Please email submissions to spectrum.outlook@acma.gov.au by Tuesday 15 May 2012.
