ACMA proposes changes to radio services in Gosford and Lismore

Media release 54/2013 - 18 July

The Australian Communications and Media Authority is seeking public comment on proposals to vary the licence area plans (LAPs) for Gosford Radio (Gosford LAP) and Lismore Radio (Lismore LAP) to make spectrum available for new high powered open narrowcasting (HPON) radio broadcasting services.

At Gosford it is proposed to vary the LAP to make AM frequency 747 kHz available for a HPON radio service to operate with a maximum operating power during the day of 500 watts (W) and 200 W during the night-time hours from the Gosford Race Course.

At Lismore it is proposed to vary the LAP to make FM frequency 91.1 MHz available for a HPON radio service to operate with a maximum operating power of 1 kilowatt (1 kW) from the Robinson Lookout transmitter site.

The ACMA also proposes that the licence areas for commercial and community radio broadcasting services in the Gosford and Lismore LAPs are redefined using 2006 census data, but otherwise remain unchanged.

These proposed changes are respectively contained in the:

and are discussed in an accompanying explanatory paper.

These documents are also available by calling 1300 850 115.

More information on the ACMA’s broadcast planning process and LAPs can be found at the ACMA web site.

The closing date for comments on these proposals is 5pm Friday 16 August 2013.
