Spectrum tune-up: Spectrum for 5G broadband in mmWave bands

The most recent update to the ACMA’s five year spectrum outlook (FYSO) sought comment on a number of issues surrounding mobile broadband use of bands above 24.25 GHz—referred to as mmWave bands. Submissions to the FYSO have fed into our ongoing work on this issue over the past year.

When considering bands for mobile broadband, the ACMA follows a set of strategies that were developed through consultation with industry.

To further progress consideration of the mmWave bands, the ACMA conducted a spectrum tune-up on 5 September 2017, which included speakers from both the ACMA and industry.

At the event, the ACMA launched a consultation process on spectrum for 5G broadband in mmWave bands. A one week extension has been granted to the deadline for submissions to this consultation. Submissions now close on 20 October 2017.
