Notification zones for apparatus licensed services around radio astronomy facilities

Radiocommunications Assignment and Licensing Instruction (RALI) MS 31 Notification Zones for Apparatus Licensed Services around Radio Astronomy Facilities prescribes a process for notifying prospective assignments to apparatus licensed services, in the vicinity of key radio astronomy facilities, to the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

The prescribed arrangements seek to facilitate protection of the radio astronomy service by encouraging prospective licensees and the CSIRO to reach mutually acceptable technical solutions that would prevent avoidable interference to the radio astronomy service.

The notification and associated procedures detailed in (RALI) MS 31 apply to services to be operated within the frequency bands (1,250 – 1,780 MHz), (2,200 – 2,550 MHz), (4,350 – 6,700 MHz), (8,000 – 9,200 MHz) and (16,000 – 26,000 MHz) and located within prescribed zones of CSIRO facilities at:

  • Parkes (NSW);
  • Narrabri (NSW);
  • Coonabarabran (NSW);
  • Hobart (Tas);
  • Ceduna (SA); and
  • Tidbinbilla (ACT)

Spatial representations of the prescribed zones are available in Google Earth Placemarks (ordered by CSIRO observatory site or Frequency band) and Shapefile format.
