How we can fight spam together

The ACMA needs your help to track down and prosecute scammers. Reporting spam to the ACMA helps us to track down spammers world wide.  With the help of the Australian public we have undertaken substantive enforcement actions, as also highlighted in the Case studies page. The ACMA also works with international governments to fight spam and take action against spammers around the world.

Spam is illegal under the Spam Act, and its content may also be illegal under a number of other Australian laws. To assist the ACMA to fight spam, you can:

  • lodge a report or complaint about spam you receive.
  • If you have been a victim of a scam, you can contact the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission by visiting www.scamwatch.gov.au or by phoning 1300 302 502 during business hours.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) also deals with certain types of complaints about the contents of some spam messages, particularly those relating to fraudulent conduct by Australian businesses. For more information visit ASIC's website at www.asic.gov.au.
