ACMA media release 43/2013 - 11 June
The commercial television sector reported a seven per cent increase in revenue to $4.6691 billion in 2010–11 compared to the previous year, while reported expenditure on local programming jumped 16 per cent in the same period, according to figures released (Word | PDF |XLS) today by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
The Broadcasting financial results 2010–11 report, which has been posted on the new ACMA website, presents aggregated licence data for Australian commercial radio and television sectors for the years 2010–11 and 2009–10 (based on information provided to the ACMA by licensees).
The commercial radio sector reported broadcasting services revenue of $1.1269 billion in 2010–11, a six per cent decrease from 2009–10.
Reported overall expenditure on Australian commercial television programs was $1.2649 billion, a 16 per cent increase over the previous financial year, matched by a 16 per cent increase in reported overall expenditure of $432.6 million on overseas programming.
The Broadcasting financial results 2010–11 are based on information supplied by the holders of 68 commercial television licences and 273 commercial radio licences, operating as at 30 June 2011.
Commercial radio services information is provided on the financial performance of AM and FM services in national, state, capital city and regional markets. Further information is available on the basis of larger, medium-sized and smaller markets.
Commercial television information is provided on a national basis and is also broken down by state, mainland capital cities and regional markets.
The results have been released in a more accessible format, given the enhanced capabilities of the ACMA’s new website. Summaries are below.
