Evidence-informed regulation
The ACMA’s regulatory processes are informed by high quality evidence from a wide range of sources. Our approach to evidence-informed regulation is outlined in Evidence-informed regulation: The ACMA approach.
This document outlines the key forms of data, information and research that comprise the ACMA’s evidence base for regulation. It describes the role of this diverse evidence base in informing our regulatory development, decision-making and other functions. It also sets out the ways we promote continuous improvement and best practice in evidence-informed regulation.
Our statement of approach to evidence-informed regulation forms part of a broader suite of regulatory improvement initiatives and measures to increase the transparency of our decision-making. These include the Five-year Spectrum Outlook 2009-2013, the Spectrum Management Principles and our use of the total welfare standard in assessing regulatory proposals.
Effective consultation
We are currently putting the principles of evidence-informed regulation into practice in a number of ways. These include working to enhance the effectiveness of our stakeholder consultation processes, which are an important source of evidence for our regulatory development activities.
