Emergency numbers

What phone number do I dial in the case of an emergency ?

Emergency services in Australia can be contacted on '000' from all telephones.

If calling from a digital GSM mobile telephone, emergency services can also be accessed by dialling '112'.

To help the emergency services operator, you should:

  1. be ready to offer information on the nature of the services you require (Police, Fire or Ambulance); and
  2. provide details to help them find the location of the emergency (including street address if possible).

When calling emergency services from a fixed network telephone or payphone, the calling address details are automatically relayed to the emergency services operator.

If you need to contact either Police, Fire or Ambulance services for matters that are not immediately urgent or life threatening, dial directory assistance on '1223' or use your local White Pages telephone directory to obtain contact telephone numbers for the appropriate local services.
