The ACMA has investigated whether the Commercial Television Industry Code of Practice reflects community standards regarding reality television programming in the free-to-air commercial television sector and whether it provides appropriate community safeguards with respect to reality television.
The review was undertaken pursuant to a Direction from the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts. The ACMA provided the Minister with its final report and recommendations by 1 April 2007, as required.

In undertaking the review the ACMA had regard to data and views gathered through:
- quantitative research, including analysis of ratings data and results of a national survey, and
- qualitative research, including analysis of public submissions, responses from a series of focus groups and industry consultation.
