Broadcasting licence fee rebate

Contacts

The broadcasting licence fee rebate (the Rebate) was first introduced on 18 June 2010 and is available to eligible commercial television broadcasting licensees.

Licensees must have complied with the Broadcasting Services (Australian Content) Standard 2005 for the calendar year 2010, 2011 and 2012 to be eligible to claim the Rebate for the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 accounting periods respectively. However, this eligibility requirement did not apply to licensees for the 2009-10 accounting period.

The Rebate applies to the following broadcasting licence fee (BLF) periods against the amount of fees otherwise payable under section 6/6A of the Television Licence Fees Act 1964, subject to eligibility:

Where licensees are entitled to claim the digital conversion rebate (regional equalisation plan rebate) under Part 3 of the Television Licence Fees Regulations 1990, licensees must deduct the amount of the digital conversion rebate before calculating the amount of the Rebate that can be claimed.
