Statement regarding NDS reports
Since reports regarding NDS were published earlier this week, the Australian Communications and Media Authority has been monitoring developments. In all matters such as this the ACMA makes whatever inquiries (formal or informal) it judges appropriate.
‘As Senator Conroy observed, if anyone has any information which they believe to be about criminal conduct in Australia, they should refer it to the Australian Federal Police for investigation,’ said ACMA Chairman, Chris Chapman.
The ACMA concerns itself with the suitability of licensees. To be assessed as unsuitable, there must be a “significant risk” that allowing a licensee to retain its licence will lead to specific outcomes such as a breach of its licence conditions, an offence against the Broadcasting Services Act (BSA) or the breach of a civil penalty provision in the BSA.
The ACMA will not be commenting further at this stage.
