Suppliers using alternative labelling

Alert: Changes to ACMA labelling arrangements from 1 March 2013.

New single compliance mark – RCM. Further information is available.

Under the Telecommunications Labelling Notice suppliers of certain customer cabling and associated customer equipment (collectively, cabling products) have an alternative to labelling with the A-Tick compliance label.

Suppliers who are eligible to use the alternative arrangement and therefore not affix the A-Tick to their product, are required to maintain a publicly available register on the internet listing each of their compliant cabling products individually. Identification of these products rely on unique markings and labels currently applied during the manufacturing or importing process.

Only products requiring a licensed or registered cabler for installation (and scoped by the current standards AS/CA S008:2010 or AS/ACIF S008:2006 or the expired standards AS/ACIF S008:2001 or TS008:1997) are eligible for the alternative labelling path. These authorised cabling products include such things as cable, connectors, distributors and patch panels.

The A-Tick plays a primary role for consumers in determining product compliance and whether or not the product can be legally connected to the telecommunications network. Cabling products destined for the consumer market will continue to be A-ticked. Examples of such products include pre-terminated (terminated with plugs) telephone extension cords, plug-in socket adaptors and pre-terminated patch leads.

For more information on the regulations, please consult the Telecommunications Labelling (Customer Equipment and Customer Cabling) Notice 2001. A Technical Article about this matter is also available.
