ABA allocates a new commerical radio licence for Perth, WA

The Australian Broadcasting Authority has allocated a new commercial radio broadcasting licence to serve Perth.

The successful applicant for the licence and the amount bid for the licence was as follows:

Perth (SL1150743) (93.7 MHz) DMG Radio (Perth) Pty Ltd (a joint venture between DMG Radio and ARN) $25,000,000

The new service will operate on the FM band.

"The allocation of a new commercial radio licence answers a long expressed demand from residents for additional services," said Professor David Flint, ABA Chairman. "People in this area can look forward to the introduction of a new service within the next 12 months."

All successful applicants must commence operation of a service within one year of being allocated the licence (or seek the ABA's permission for an extension of this period).

The ABA held auctions for this licence on 14 February 2002. Full payment for the licence had to be made between 45 and 47 days after the licence allocation exercise
