New space policies and procedures – Outcomes of ACMA reform

The ACMA recently finalised its review of policies and procedures associated with the coordination and notification of satellite systems filed through the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Following consultation on this matter in 2010 and consideration of the most appropriate way forward, the ACMA has decided to implement a model which includes the following elements:

  • Australian procedures for the coordination and notification of satellite systems (the manual) which provides a description of the policies and procedures associated with every stage of the management of Australian-filed ITU satellite systems - Word or PDF formats
  • Application for use of access to an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) satellite system, a document to be provided by an applicant for a proposed Australian ITU satellite system, which specifies the applicant’s obligations and identifies the associated satellite networks - Word or PDF formats
  • Satellite coordination and notification regulatory environment, a document explaining the ACMA’s view of the regulatory context within which the review of procedures has taken place - Word or PDF formats

The reformed procedures take effect on 1 January 2012.
