3D TV trials to cover AFL and NRL grand finals
The Australian Communications and Media Authority today announced that it will issue licences to the Seven Network and the Nine Network to conduct trial broadcasts of 3D TV in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle, Adelaide and Perth covering the AFL and NRL grand final matches, respectively.
The ACMA also indicated that it will suspend consideration of any further 3D TV trials while it conducts a review of certain spectrum, licensing and consumer policy issues associated with 3D TV. Read more ...
Consumer alert: Telemarketers scamming Australians about the Do Not Call Register
Unscrupulous telemarketers are offering to list consumers’ phone numbers on the Do Not Call Register for a fee, according to the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
‘The Do Not Call Register is a free service provided by the Australian Government,’ said ACMA Chairman, Chris Chapman, who warned consumers not to provide any personal identification or financial details to telemarketers making these calls. Read more ...

The ACMA is making spectrum in the 3.6 GHz band available for wireless access services in more regional areas. A 10 day application window for licence applications in Bunbury, Gippsland, Hobart and the Hunter Valley region (Area 4) will commence on 28 September. Applications for licences in the Queensland Coast region (Area 5) will be sought once Area 4 is completed. Licences will be allocated via an over the counter administrative process.
