Reformed space policies & procedures

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (the ACMA) recently reviewed its policies and procedures associated with the coordination and notification of satellite systems filed through the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Following consultation on this matter in 2010 and consideration of the most appropriate way forward, the ACMA is implementing a model which includes the following elements:

  1. Australian procedures for the coordination and notification of satellite systems (the manual) - provides a description of the policies and procedures associated with every stage of the management of Australian-filed ITU satellite systems (Word | PDF)

  2. Application for use of access to an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) satellite system - a document to be provided by applicants for a proposed Australian satellite system. Specifies applicant obligations and identifies the associated satellite networks –(Word | PDF)

  3. Satellite coordination and notification regulatory environment - a document explaining the ACMA’s view of the regulatory context within which the review of procedures has taken place (Word | PDF).

These reformed procedures took effect on 1 January 2012.
