Sydney Leisure Guide commits to Do Not Call compliance

Media release 70/2012 – 2 October

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (the ACMA) has accepted an enforceable undertaking from Lee Berenger, trading as Sydney Leisure Guide, following an investigation which found that Mr Berenger’s telemarketing practices did not comply with the Do Not Call Register Act.

As part of the undertaking, Mr Berenger has committed to:

  1. Participate in telemarketing compliance training

  2. Keep comprehensive records of telemarketing calls he makes

  3. Record details of customers who have opted out of receiving future telemarketing calls.

All businesses conducting telemarketing should have some form of compliance process to avoid breaking Australia’s Do Not Call laws.

The ACMA’s new telemarketing blog, ‘Better Telemarketing – Take the Right Line’, targets regular telemarketers and those considering telemarketing. It provides a series of tips to encourage businesses to put a shine on their brand through ‘best practice’ telemarketing, which includes not calling numbers listed on Australia’s Do Not Call Register.

The inaugural blog deals with the important topic of washing your telemarketing lists. To sign up for ‘Better Telemarketing’ go to the ACMA's Engage website.

Members of the public can opt out of receiving unsolicited telemarketing calls and marketing faxes by calling 1300 792 958 or visiting www.donotcall.gov.au.
