Radiocommunications Standard (Cordless Telephones)

The ACMA standard, Radiocommunications (Cordless Telephone) Standard 2008, refers to the industry standards:

  • AS/NZS 4281:2007 Radiocommunications requirements for cordless telephones operating in the 1.7 MHz and between 30 and 41 MHz frequency band; and
  • AS/NZS CISPR 22:2006 Information technology equipment - Radio disturbance characteristics - Limits and methods of measurement that are adopted or applied by AS/NZS 4281:2007

for technical performance matters including test methods and limits.

The ACMA standard modifies aspects of the industry standard, AS/NZS 4281:2007 (see the ACMA standard for exclusion provisions).

It is important to note that the applicable mandatory standard is the ACMA standard, not the industry standards to which it refers.

Testing and record-keeping requirements for this standard are Compliance Level 1.

The ACMA standard and Explanatory Statement are available from the ComLaw website.

All industry standards can be purchased from SAI Global.

Note: Cordless telephones may be subject to requirements specified in telecommunications standards made under the Telecommunications Act 1997 or in class licences made under the Radiocommunications Act 1992.
