About commercial broadcasters

Commercial broadcasters use advertising to fund their broadcasting operations for a profit. This page describes commercial broadcasters in detail and links to lists of current licence holders.

About commercial broadcasters

Section 14 of the Broadcasting Services Act states that Commercial broadcasting services:

  1. provide programs intended to appeal to the general public

  2. are able to be received by commonly available equipment

  3. are free to the general public

  4. are usually funded by advertising revenue

  5. are operated for profit or as part of a profit-making enterprise

  6. comply with any determinations or clarifications under section 19 of the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 in relation to commercial broadcasting services.
